Greetings, Stephen here. Today was probably the most scenic. Wide open fields with patches of palm trees here and there. We saw 113 gators, 2 of which were dead. 5-6 bald eagles, and a ton of cows. We're camping on an old Indian shell mound tonight. Goodnight!

Stephen here...Today was awesome!... Until we made it to the last 5 miles, when the wind decided to turn on us. On the first two lakes though, I was surfin some gnarly waves brah! I was zoomin across the water and had some serious fun. We had a little drizzle of rain but I got the wettest on the last lake. Fighting those waves made me feel like I was reenacting the perfect storm. And when we made it to the large patch of tall grass that I thought was the end of the lake, Daniel informed us that we were only halfway done. We spotted 54 gators and 2 bald eagles today! Goodnight.

Thanks to all the good vibes you all are sending us, a wind in our favor helped us along the way. Keep them coming! I couldn't have asked for better weather. we spotted 51 gators today. Now we're trying to sleep with the sound of air boats flying by and cars driving on a bridge overhead. The airboats will stop in a few hours though. Goodnight!

March Canoe Trip...

Howdy guys!

It's definitely been a while since my last blog on here, but rest assured we've kept up the planning for a new canoe trip. In my last post, I was saying that we would try the trip in May, but actually it's gonna be March. To be exact, Saturday, March 5 is when we're gonna start. It'll be me, Popeye (who you know from the last attempt at canoeing the entire St. Johns), and a new guy, Andrew. We're gonna be taking one canoe and one kayak (Old Orange, yeah!).
We are all pretty pumped about this new trip, and hopefully we'll be able to get some video up soon talking to the other guys about their expectations. Stay tuned as this trip is coming up pretty darn fast...we're already less than two weeks away!

There may quite possibly be a new canoe trip in May. Not sure of the destination yet; once the crew is set in stone, we'll make a group decision. Won't be the whole St. Johns, but has a good chance of turning out to be fantastic adventure. Stay tuned!

The Shelter...

Hi everyone!

It's been a while since I've written; sorry about that! I just picked up another job last month and have been getting settled with that. I have also been working on some primitive living skills so that we can eventually go on that new kind of trip I was talking about last time. I can now make rope out of natural materials pretty well, can make a friction fire fairly consistently, and just recently built a palm frond shelter with Matt P. and John N. I was in there all day yesterday when the big thunder storms came through, and stayed dry as a bone! Here's some pics of it above!

A New Kind of Trip...

Hello everyone!

Daniel Robison here. Well, it's been a few weeks since our last trip, and here in Riverbluff we've been throwing around the idea for a completely new sort of trip; one not so much of long distance, but rather actual living. Primitive living, to be precise; a group of us would basically travel to a fairly remote area, and then basically set up camp there for a few days. We would have to build our own shelter, start our own fires, and possibly even catch our own food with nothing but what we find in the woods.

Over the course of the last several trips I've taken, I've found myself really wishing that I could stop and stay at some of the places that I've had to hurry by, as I was on a schedule. With this new kind of trip, staying and exploring and soaking in a place for all it is would be the whole point! Not only that, but it would allow us to take much more high quality pictures so that we could better share our experiences on the River with others. It's at least in the works; no dates, crews or locations set yet.

But never fear; we're certainly not ditching long-distance trips for good! I've heard rumors of someone that might attempt to break my kayaking speed record of the River sometime early this year, and if that's the case, I may be going out again, not to mention possibly a few others from Riverbluff!

A good way to start the New Year

Hey everyone, this is Stephen. So that you know, I'm a little disappointed that the crew didn't complete the trip. But even though we only made it half way, I still feel like we made a big accomplishment. About 138 miles in 4 days of nearly non-stop paddling at an average speed of 3 miles an hour! But that's not even it. Seeing a side of Florida that I had never known, from the perspective of the St. John's River was not only beautiful everyday, but was a complete learning experience. A struggle with nature(wind,shallow waters,darkness,and the cold) and with my mind gave me a deep respect for those two elements. The struggle has also given me a new appreciation for this world away from the river. May this be the first of many canoe trips! Namaste!
